"When I traveled home to Guinea this January 2021, I was dismayed to find few took precautions to prevent the Covid 19 virus. I composed a song for my people that stresses the importance of wearing masks, social distance and washing hands to protect from the virus. The song is now being broadcast throughout Guinea. I use music to lessen fears, empower and give hope to my community just as the griots of my village spoke to me in song when I was lost years ago." Sidiki Conde

Africa in New Orleans is a collection of my songs, a number of which I composed while artist in residence with the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park and A Studio in the Woods.  The music was recorded together with New Orleans musicians including present and former NP Rangers.

The New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park invited Guinean guitarist, Wowo Souakoli and I to collaboratewith New Orleans’ musicians of the diverse genres of the city: jazz, blues, and zydeco. All of these genres have their origins in West Africa.
